In the midst of all of the controversy on President Trump’s decision to end the DACA program (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), we must recognize the possibility that Trump may not actually be trying to end the program.
While at first, it seemed apparent that Trump was ending the program, he later tweeted this:
Congress now has 6 months to legalize DACA (something the Obama Administration was unable to do). If they can't, I will revisit this issue!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 6, 2017
Notice how he said “legalize” and that he “will revisit the issue” himself if Congress does not legalize DACA? So perhaps he even supports the program, and just wants it to be fully legal? But that can’t be it either, seeing as he’s going to “revisit” the issue if Congress does nothing. Now, to me, it sounds like he supports the program and if Congress won’t legalize it, he will do what it takes to legalize it himself, constitutional or not.
This would, obviously, be a complete 180 from the candidate who ran on a platform of immigration reform. What can we expect, now, if our president no longer holds his campaign promises? Unfortunately, it seems as if our president has fallen into the politics game and forgotten those promises, just like so many others.
Now, of course, this is all speculation, Trump could just as easily be ceding this one to the left, in order to garner Democrat support for something much larger……perhaps enhanced border security, or maybe tax and/or budget reform.
At any rate, it can be said that our President is doing things and making stuff happen. And of course, no one can deny the massive help that Trump has given to the victims of Hurricane Harvey and for the preparation for Hurricane Irma.
